INSIGHT

When we think of the products we buy being delivered to our front door, we tend to just think of the delivery driver – as they’re the ones we see. But we scarcely think about those in the middle – the long-haul truck drivers. But it’s those people in the middle who put in some of the hardest yards, the longest hours and deal with isolation for weeks-on-end. In a 2022 study (in the U.S.), almost 63% of long-haul truck drivers said they waited at least 3 hours every time they were at a logistics warehouse. That’s a lot of time where drivers could take a real break, and exactly where I thought Goodman could get involved and make a difference. Highway rest stops often aren’t geared towards being a relaxing place to be, this aims to change that.

IDEA

The idea was at Goodman logistics/warehouse sites there’d be a dedicated space – The Goodman GoodStop. A place for truck drivers to get out of their cabs and recharge while they wait in between unloading/loading and getting back on the road. A converted shipping container would be placed in an area the drivers can easily and safely access.

Not only is it a space to grab a snack, stretch out on a couch, FaceTime family, grab a free bottle of water or coffee but it’s also a chance to connect with other drivers; a great boost to their mental well-being. The initiative could also reduced the fatigue on long-haul drivers. This could become a global initiative across the Goodman global portfolio and help show some love for long-haul truckers.
