FIBA WWC ‘22 CAMPAIGN CONCEPT
Idea / Concept art direction / Storyboards
There’s something beautiful about an opal, and each one is one of a kind. The way light shows off the different types, colours and patterns in the stone – they’re mesmerising. There may be the ambition to find one… but first you have to dig for it. The same parallels can also be said for the Opals – Australia’s national women’s basketball team. This is a story of what it takes to be an Opal… what’s at the heart of an Opal.
TVC Narrative: The journey begins in outback Australia with opal miners fossicking for opals, searching for the hidden gem in the mines. We hear them talk about the chase to find opals, the time, effort and hard work they put in. We then show a young girl learning to play basketball, we see the smile, the dream, the love for game but she’s not there yet. The miner finds some opals, they look rough but they can see the potential. The opal miner begins to cut away the rough parts to reveal the true character of the gem they’ve found. We see the opals putting in the hard work, the blood, sweat, tears, all for a chance at glory and to wear the green and gold for Australia. That opal is now a finished gem. Watch us shine.
Along side the TVC and OOH would be a series of social short-films across the social platforms. These would highlight a few of the players on the Opals team and their journey to becoming an Opal, and what being an Opal means to them.
