HERE’S TO LOOKING UP
Design
With the launch of Virgin Australia’s 2017-18 campaign I was tasked with leading the design for rollout across multiple mediums. When I joined at DDB much of the imagery and copy in the creative was underway, with 3 differing comms pieces – ‘The Uptimists’, ‘Here’s To Looking Up’ and ‘Coming Home Is Nice’. I took over the type function/look and feel, and layouts.
One of the main mediums was Virgin Australia’s Voyeur in-flight magazine, and taking the campaign manifesto to a double-page spread to help celebrate the launch. The majority of the OOH rollout was done internally with the studio team, but I took the OOH placements for them to base the layouts off.



There was also a push in Virgin Australia’s terminals with placements on baggage carousels and digital boards, again carrying the 3 key campaign pieces, but also we took stills from the campaign TVC to use on some digital boards within key airports to further connect to the brand ad.
For the social aspect, the AD wanted something over the TVC to tell the same story as the VO if played with the sound off, we thought of a kinetic type feel was a creative way rather than just some subtitles – it’s Virgin, it has to be fun and engaging. Taking the VO script I laid out the boards with the style and animation notes for an animator to finish the final piece.
