VIRGIN AUSTRALIA & DELTA AIRLINES
JOINT GUIDES
Design / Layout / Copywriting
When Virgin Australia and Delta Airline announced a route and code-sharing agreement, we were briefed on how that might look for both parties. The aim was to communicate that both Virgin Australia and Delta Airlines flew across the Pacific, but it’s the in-country routes of them that gets you places once you arrive. Sharing the lead across two airline carriers brings up the question - who comes first or does it even matter? I thought the clever solution was depending on where the comms are coming from that should be the lead. So if it’s out of the U.S that Delta Airlines is more forward, and for Australia it’s Virgin Australia with the partner airline next.
This notion lead into all the visuals with font and colours too, with the lead market taking first position and the partner in second like the identities. Using their colour palettes and blending them together with a gradient helped to highlight each airline – also served as the idea of a smooth transition when you fly from one carrier to the next.
